About Karst
Karst is a region in south-eastern Slovenia whish gave name to any carsic region tn the world. It is characterised by thin blanket of soil all pierced by white limestone rocks. Strange carsic phenomena is visible in the rock: holes and caves have been carved into the rock by water in millions of years. Surface water is therefore rare and mainly hidden in underground rivers and lakes.
Karst is close to Adriatic Sea :it beginns as a rocky edge some 200 meters above sea level. Life in Karst was harsh in the past, so it is not heavily populated. The region is characterised by small towns and vilages with stone houses closely pached together to give shelter from severe bora wind. The landscape arround is wild and unspoilt, so Karst is very popular for biking, hikinga, horce ridinga and golfing. Local cuisine is famous far and large: trying local traditional specialties is definitely a must.
